Toronto, Ontario – The Canada Media Fund (CMF) is making $10M available to Canada’s interactive digital media companies. This is part of the $27.8M in funding that was designated for Canada’s audiovisual sector as part of Phase 2 of the COVID-19 Emergency Support Fund for Cultural, Heritage and Sport Organizations by the Government of Canada. Applications are now open.

Interactive Ontario (IO) was instrumental in the creation of this fund and we worked hand in hand with our fellow provincial trade associations across Canada to advocate for it. IO took the lead on this file because we saw the opportunity to make a difference for our sector. IO also put together an industry task force to develop recommendations. We submitted the latter to our fellow provincial colleagues, and from there to the federal government. We met with key decision makers and influencers at the CMF and Canadian Heritage several times to discuss our recommendations and provide the insights they needed to develop the program.

We are grateful to the CMF and Canadian Heritage for engaging with us and creating this much appreciated emergency fund for our industry. We are also thankful to our members who provided feedback during our Town Halls and to those who got involved with the special task force that provided the foundational recommendations that led to the creation of this fund.
