Feb Fatale 7: Presence Tense
February 22 at 10:00 am - February 23 at 6:00 pm| Free for DMG Members
Our annual noir-themed game jam, set in the dead heart of winter, digs in to a new challenging theme every year.
In the seventh edition of Feb Fatale, we will explore what it means for people who live and work on the margins to take up space. What does that act look like, how does it feel and what does it ultimately mean for those who resist exclusion? It can be a radical act for people who are forced out of public spaces and deprived of resources, but the nuances and implications of taking up space can be fraught.
Come create a small game that challenges how the player navigates the game space, encourages curiosity rather than destruction and colonialism, and create an experience that is self-aware and fierce about the space we take up.
2020 theme curated by Santo Aveiro-Ojeda
About the jam
WHAT: 48 hours creating a game about space and how we take it
WHO: DMG members. Work in a team or solo.
WHEN: All weekend Feb 22-23, 2020. We keep our jams to pretty reasonable hours – 10am-5pm – so you can rest, recharge and feel good Monday morning. If you’re on a roll, feel free to stay a little later but there will be no all-nighters! Optional show & tell (invite your pals) Sunday 5-6pm.
Never jammed before? Never made a game? That’s ok, we’ll make sure you have resources and support to make this a great experience! Drop us an email or find Jennie, Izzie or Santo on Slack if you have any questions. Be sure to join the #feb-fatale-7 channel, too.
Jam participants will have an opportunity to showcase their games at our annual FEB FATALE party and arcade in the spring during Doors Open!
We’ll supply work space, wi-fi and computers/headsets as needed (bring your own if you wish). If you require any other accommodation to make participation easier, such as child care or transit subsidy, please let us know and we will make it happen.
Light breakfast (bagels, cereal), coffee and tea throughout the day, and a hearty taco lunch (vegan and allergy-sensitive options) 🌮 will be be provided. Be sure to note any dietary restrictions in your member profile.
What to Bring
Bring your own laptop if you wish, or reserve one of ours in advance. Nothing else to bring but your ideas!
