Interactive Ontario recently attended Minister MacLeod’s speech at the Empire Club of Canada where she unveiled the foundations for her long-term strategies for Heritage, Sport, Tourism, and Culture industries.

We are pleased to announce that the Interactive Digital Media (IDM) industry is on the map. This reflects the relentless advocacy work that we have participated in with the industry since the beginning of the pandemic.

Minister MacLeod also announced that the Ontario Interactive Digital Media Tax Credit (OIDMTC) and the other tax credits under her purview will remain stable. We still have a lot of work to do to get the Ontario government to improve the tax credit — our advocacy priority — but we at least have a stable foundation to build from.

The Ministry’s strategies also include leveraging IDM to help other sectors, particularly Tourism. This is a message that we’ve been communicating since the beginning of the crisis and that is now being amplified by the Minister. The IDM Directory developed by Interactive Ontario has been shared with the Minister and promoted by her and Ontario Creates to help generate more cross-sectoral opportunities.

We will continue to update you with the progression of our efforts.
