Today Minister of Canadian Heritage Mélanie Joly released the planned implementation of the Creative Export Strategy, an important element of Creative Canada. Interactive Ontario was active in the 2016 industry consultations and has been very eager to see the federal government’s plan to update previous export programs to include interactive digital media such as video games, mobile games, AR/VR and web content.
In particular, Interactive Ontario welcomes the federal government’s commitment to increase resources to support Canadian creators at key Canadian embassies and consulates abroad and the creation of Creative Export Canada, a $7-million a year export program.
“Interactive Digital Media is a very export-focused creative sector,” said Christa Dickenson, CEO of Interactive Ontario, “and with support more of the IDM companies in Ontario will be able to access international markets. We are gratified to see that the federal government understands this.”
Interactive Ontario looks forward to learning more details about both initiatives and how they will support interactive digital media.
