Highlights from gTalk Toronto with Richard Wah Kan
June 30, 2009

Richard Wah Kan, Founder and Former President and CEO of DreamCatcher
Interactive Inc. joined us yesterday for another installment of IO's
gTalk series at the Ontario Investment and Trade Centre. Speaking to Ontario game developers and other
supporting industries, Richard gave the audience some valuable insights
about the world of video game publishing and the marketing mathematics
involved in getting your game on the shelf.
Highlights included:
- Pre 2005: Game budgets hovered around ~ $5 million for PS2 & Xbox titles
- 2006 & beyond: It's not unreasonable to see game budgets of $15 - $20 million for PS3 and Xbox 360 titles
- Working backwards from the holiday sales spike and how to schedule your production and marketing.
- With today's rise in the casual games industry, if you're selling only to males, you're ignoring half the market.
Thanks to Richard and all the attendees that came out to enjoy this presentation.
