DescriptionThe Independent Learning Center (ILC) which provides a variety of educational services, including a distance education program, General Education Development testing, online homework help, and career planning and information for its current and potential clients, is looking for a New Media Specialist II with superior programming and design skills to develop, maintain and enhance its sites and online courses. This is a Staff position. Major Duties and Responsibilities The multifunction New Media Specialist II is responsible for the architecture, development and maintenance of all ILC online properties. Performs a variety of duties related to the design, creation, and maintenance of ILC digital content. Brainstorms content ideas, develops web pages consisting of text, graphics, video or audio components using HTML coding and software such as Dreamweaver and Flash. Codes interactive material and animation, and has the ability to draw, build, produce and layout visual elements to support written content for courses by creating and modifying images using scanners and software such as Photoshop. Must ensure interfaces are effective and user friendly for clients. Adjusts, modifies and maintains Oracle database, writes technical summaries, creative documents and process reviews. Provides technical direction for and acts as a mentor to other ILC technical staff. May work within a team or alone on new media projects, with the understanding that an assignment may change with a minimum amount of notice depending on the specific skills required. Keeps current with digital design tools, authoring and interactive technology. Performs other directly related duties as required.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years work experience developing and maintaining Web sites
  • Advanced understanding of Web site design and its impact on the user experience;
  • Expertise with Flash, Dreamweaver, HTML, ColdFusion and Oracle platform;
  • Experience integrating Flash objects into a dynamically driven web interface, and ensuring that the application can be effectively used by PC and Mac clients;
  • Good understanding of Web site server configuration and database connectivity;
  • Experience testing Web applications for PC and Mac clients;
  • Proven self-starter with excellent leadership, interpersonal and time management skills;
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills with proven ability to quickly analyze and understand the source code and configuration of an existing system;
  • Excellent written/oral communication and presentation skills, coupled with the ability of articulating concepts to staff and clients and clearly documenting the processes and techniques of a system;
  • Motivated, with the ability to work unsupervised and in highly collaborative teams.
  • Experience integrating online properties in an Oracle database environment - an asset;
  • Knowledge of ColdFusion environment – an asset;
