Kate is a lawyer and leading digital entertainment strategist with over eighteen years of executive experience in the content industries. Digital Theory assists traditional players exploit the digital content marketplace, delivering strategic planning, training and policy development to corporate brands, media companies and government at all levels.

Kate brings deep business management experience to her current practice, having developed leading edge multi-platform strategies for some of Canada’s largest content players. Kate was most recently President of Women in Film and Television. There she oversaw Canada's first national digital media employment and skills research study and established the province’s media executive business certification program, delivered in partnership with the Schulich School of Business.  As Vice President, Programming and Business Development for the Jim Pattison Trade Group, Kate headed all multi-platform revenue activites for the organization’s content division. As Director of Strategic Planning and Business Development for the award-winning media agency, NextMedia, Kate oversaw the firm’s strategic planning and consulting team. She planned business and policy strategy for major media clients including HMV.com, interactive games leader NTN Buzztime, Family Channel, APTN and S-Vox.  Prior to that she was Director of Marketing and Business Development at S -Vox where she led the broadcaster’s multi-platform revenue operations including affiliate marketnig, distribution and integrated media partnerships.

A frequent lecturer and writer on the intersection of digital technology and media, in 2008 Kate established the Future of Media Executive Learning Program. Her columns have appeared in a variety of industry publications including Playback Magazine and Broadcast Dialogue. Kate speaks widely at industry conferences including most recently, NextMedia Toronto, The Playback Innovation Forum and the Banff Centre CWC Digital Medai Career Accelerator. She is former Chair of the Entertainment, Media and Communications Section of the Ontario Bar Association, Past Chair of the Women in Film and Television-Toronto Board of Directors and former Chair of the National Corporate Committee for Unicef Canada.  Kate holds a B.A. from York University and an LL.B. from the University of Western Ontario.
 


Ian Dewar
Events & Riders Club Manager

Ian Dewar calls himself an accidental marketer.  Arriving in the cycling industry on two wheels his evolution from a summer job as a bicycle tour guide to managing the interactive Specialized Riders Club as well as all event sponsorship and promotion in the USA for Specialized Bicycle Components took a circuitous trip through the world of cycling.  From taking VIP guests to the Tour de France to blogging from the Hawaii Ironman to mountain biking through the Kathmandu Valley Ian has called all of these projects “work” at some point.  Ian evolved from designing active travel trips to working with professional cyclists to managing an online community for all Specialized enthusiasts – The Specialized Riders Club – and helps to create events that connect cycling fanatics to PRO athletes to brick and mortar retailers.  All with the mantra of “ride more; more often”.  Ian hold a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce from Queen’s University and a Masters of Development Studies from Dalhousie University.





Denis Coyne
Director of Business Development, The Nightingale Company



Denis Coyne is Director of Business Development at The Nightingale Company, and therein manages projects under the auspices of the interactive division.
 
He is Creative Producer of Do You Believe Me, an online video series soon to be released by iRights Distribution, and leads development on a wide slate of interactive as well as television properties.  Since co-creating TorGame: Waking City in 2006 (an urban alternate reality game) he has become a frequent consultant on website design and social media optimization.  Denis is involved in the GOT Game (based on the Nightingale series Get Outta Town – at one time a successful BellFund application) and Wero Creative’s collaborative learning project based on Discovery’s Race To Mars documentary series (each are funded by the Inukshuk Fund).

Denis started his career at one of the most innovative charitable institutions in the city, as part of the team raising $196 million for the Toronto International Film Festival Group’s, The Bell Lightbox.

He recently joined the CFTPA’s New Media Committee as well as the Board of Directors of one of Toronto’s newest professional theatre companies.  He spends  his charitable time assisting with fundraising strategy for AC-AF, an organization dedicated to community administered micro-credit loans in sub-Saharan Africa.
