Role: Social Media & Marketing Coordinator (Remote, Ontario-based)

Duration: 8 weeks (with the possibility to extend)

Commitment: Full time (35 hours per week)

Pay: $20/hr

Interactive Ontario (IO) is the trade association representing the video game and interactive digital media (IDM) sector in Ontario. IO’s members produce, commercialize and export interactive digital entertainment and edutainment such as video games, extended reality applications (VR, AR, MR), and eLearning content. IO’s mission is to inspire, unite and enable Ontario’s IDM industry to achieve long-term growth and prosperity. Through advocacy, connections, insights, resources, programs, and building meaningful partnerships with the industry and its stakeholders, IO is dedicated to positioning Ontario as a leader on the world stage.

As Social Media and Community Management, you will be the pulse of the industry, finding and promoting the relevant news and happenings in the interactive digital media sector across our social media accounts. In this role, you will collaborate with our Communications Lead to develop engaging content and channels that serve the needs and interests of the community.

 

This position also includes management and content creation for our new digital hub initiative, The Lodgge. This includes its social media presence and managing several integrations that are live on the site. This role is for you if you want to be on top of industry trends and news in video games and interactive entertainment while helping creative businesses connect by facilitating opportunities for engagement, and discussion. 

 

This role is funded by the Department of Economic and Social Development Canada Summer Jobs program for 2022-23. All applicants must meet all of the following conditions in order to be eligible for this position:

 

  • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; and,
  • have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

 

The Marketing Coordinator’s responsibilities include but is not limited to the following priority tasks; 

 

    • Manage and produce IO’s Social Media Content Calendars and Schedule Content (eg. Hootsuite etc
    • Help develop social media strategies for IO’s and The Lodgge’s social media presence, 
    • Collaborate and coordinate with IO’s team for weekly tasks regarding urgent and upcoming communications. 
    • Deliver activities according to marketing plans and schedules.
    • Attend Weekly Planning Meetings to establish workflows and report on analytics and news. 
    • Keep the Interactive Ontario’s Calendar up to date on IO’s website with in-house events. 
    • Respond to social media notifications from the community in a reasonable time. 
    • Manage and moderate IO’s Discord server
    • Monitor and review Discord and social media’s activities to identify content that drives engagement, and contribute to the development of a strategy to encourage engagement with content. 
    • Find, flag, and promote relevant news from interactive digital media (IDM) industry members and industry happenings. 
    • Coordinate and schedule IO’s marketing and communications content, including short-form and long-form copy and images for social media, newsletters, website posts, and any other 
    • Help develop communication and social media strategies for IO’s and The Lodgge’s social media presence
    • Collaborate and coordinate with IO’s team for weekly tasks regarding urgent and upcoming communications
    • Deliver activities according to marketing plans and schedules
    • Attend Weekly Planning Meetings to establish workflows and report on analytics and news. 
    • Respond to social media notifications from the community in a reasonable time. 
    • Manage and moderate IO’s Discord server
    • Monitor and review Discord and social media’s activities to identify content that drives engagement, and contribute to the development of a strategy to encourage engagement with content. 
    • Update and manage the development of IO’s CRM, Mailing Lists, and Industry Directory with new and existing contact information.
  • Update IO’s websites (InteractiveOntario.com and TheLodgge.com).

The ideal candidate should possess or have experience in the following:

    • Familiarity using social media platforms, specifically Twitter, Discord, and LinkedIn (Tik Tok is a bonus)
    • Knowledge of the Video Game Industry and the Ontario Video Game ecosystem is a bonus.
    • Fundamental understanding of graphic design software (eg – Photoshop, Adobe Indesign, Canva)
  • Knowledge of WordPress, SEO, graphic design, and digital analytics is optional but an asset
  • Exceptional organizational skills
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Basic proficiency in Google Suite programs, including Google Docs and Google Meets
  • Time management skills
  • Communicate and engage efficiently and professionally 
  • Create, plan and execute effective content
  • Problem-solving, flexibility, and ability to resolve unexpected issues
  • Writing effective social and communications copy 
  • Build an understanding of not-for-profit operations and procedures
  • Strong interest in the business and marketing aspects of the video game and interactive digital media sector is essential..
